♻ The Pounce Way

Used wedges. Used balls. Tree stumps and no fancy golf attire.

No manicured fairways, nor watering grass in deserts required. Just natural land — ranches, farms, parks, vacant lots, big backyards, school playgrounds, football fields, etc.

Play safe: yell "fore" if anyone is in danger.

No handicaps and anyone can play. Just fun and friendly competition… with in-app wagering! :)

And practically anyone can host — even golf courses are welcome to host a Pounce tournament.

How to Play
Pounce · Sustainable Golf
What You Need

One sand wedge per player. A bucket of balls. Two stumps (or range buckets flipped upside down) set in a scalene triangle: the Top Stump at roughly 40 paces from the tee, the Bottom Stump at roughly 70 paces, with about 35 paces between the two stumps. A flat-ish piece of natural land. That's it.

The Course

The tee station sits at one point of the triangle. The two stumps form the other two points. All shots are with a sand wedge — just chip and hit the stump. Any part of the stump counts.

Front Round — 3 Stumps
1

Tee Drive → Top Stump. Start by aiming for the closer stump — the Top Stump at ~40 paces. Count every shot until you hit it.

2

Stump Drive → Bottom Stump. From where you stand at the Top Stump, chip until you hit the Bottom Stump.

3

Stump Drive → Top Stump. From the Bottom Stump, chip back to the Top Stump to finish the Front Round.

The Turn — Back Round (2 Stumps)

Walk back to the tee — that's The Turn, just like in golf. Every stroke in the Back Round counts double.

4

Tee Drive → Bottom Stump. Now aim for the farther stump — the Bottom Stump at ~70 paces.

5

Stump Drive → Top Stump. Finish the game by hitting the Top Stump.

Scoring

Lowest total strokes wins. Front Round strokes count ×1. Back Round strokes count ×2. A full game is 5 stumps across both rounds.

Mulligans

Every drive (tee or stump) gets one mulligan. If you take it, you must use it — no best-ball. The mulligan stroke counts. Use them wisely.

Formats

Game — Single game, least strokes wins. Default for solo play.

Match — Best of 3 games. Game wins matter, not total strokes. Default for 2–3 players.

Championship — Best of 5 games. Game wins only.

Game Tiebreakers

When a game ends tied: each tied player's next tee drive breaks the tie. Closest to the stump wins. Mulligan counts if taken.

Final game tie: same tiebreaker, but each player gets up to two mulligans (up to 3 balls each — must use if taken) aiming at the Top Stump.

🪙 Wagering & the Skill Gap

Wagering is optional and uses chips — any denomination you agree on. It's also Pounce's built-in way to level the playing field without formal handicapping.

How it works: Before the game, the stronger player simply puts more chips into the pot. If Tony is the better player, he might put in 3 chips while Jay puts in 1. The winner takes all 4.

This informally handicaps the skilled player in two ways: they risk more when they lose, and they have more to prove. It also gives the underdog a real financial incentive to chase the upset — which is exactly the spirit of match play.

Press bet: At The Turn, any player who is down in the match can call a Press — doubling the stakes for the Back Round only. Optional, and must be agreed by all players.
